How does ethnocentricity cause conflict?

Ethnocentricity causes conflict between different cultures. When colonizing Australia, the British judged the native Australian culture from an ethnocentric point of view, creating a conflict between the two distinctive cultures. The first impression that the two cultures had about each other was rather positive. However, by calling the First Australians savages, the colonists treated the natives as if they were animals. In the book The Rabbits, the native Australians effort to protect their country failed because the colonists were too strong for them. The colonists viewed the First Australians as an uncivilized species, giving them no human rights to keep their own country. Just because the First Australians' culture was completely different from their own culture, the British colonists saw them as an uncivilized society, denying them basic human rights. These biased perceptions came from the ethnocentrism of the British colonists which led to the conflict between the two cultures. The first conflict was when the colonist McIntyre killed the Aborigines just as if he were killing some animals. This act insulted the Aborigines, which made an Aboriginal leader named Pemulway seek revenge. Since the colonists were full of ethnocentrism, they became overzealous when they compared themselves with the Aborigines. Feeling that they were superior than the natives, they began to inhibit the Aborigines land ruthlessly. As a result, a war took place between the colonists who were trying to conquer their land and the First Australians who were just trying to protect it. The British eliminated and wiped out the First Australian culture by using violence and brutality. Because of the colonists irresponsible act towards the Aborigines, many innocent natives died. The British ethnocentrism caused immense pain to the Aborigines and ended up causing extreme conflict.

Julius Caesar: Solo/Duet Performance Assessment

ACT 2 SCENE 2 LINES 65~108
CAESAR
Shall Caesar send a lie?
Have I in conquest stretch'd mine arm so far,
To be afraid to tell graybeards the truth?
Decius, go tell them Caesar will not come.

DECIUS BRUTUS
Most mighty Caesar, let me know some cause,
Lest I be laugh'd at when I tell them so.

CAESAR
The cause is in my will: I will not come;
That is enough to satisfy the senate.
But for your private satisfaction,
Because I love you, I will let you know:
Calpurnia here, my wife, stays me at home:
She dreamt to-night she saw my statua,
Which, like a fountain with an hundred spouts,
Did run pure blood: and many lusty Romans
Came smiling, and did bathe their hands in it:
And these does she apply for warnings, and portents,
And evils imminent; and on her knee
Hath begg'd that I will stay at home to-day.

DECIUS BRUTUS
This dream is all amiss interpreted;
It was a vision fair and fortunate:
Your statue spouting blood in many pipes,
In which so many smiling Romans bathed,
Signifies that from you great Rome shall suck
Reviving blood, and that great men shall press
For tinctures, stains, relics and cognizance.
This by Calpurnia's dream is signified.

CAESAR
And this way have you well expounded it.

DECIUS BRUTUS
I have, when you have heard what I can say:
And know it now: the senate have concluded
To give this day a crown to mighty Caesar.
If you shall send them word you will not come,
Their minds may change. Besides, it were a mock
Apt to be render'd, for some one to say
'Break up the senate till another time,
When Caesar's wife shall meet with better dreams.'
If Caesar hide himself, shall they not whisper
'Lo, Caesar is afraid'?
Pardon me, Caesar; for my dear dear love
To our proceeding bids me tell you this;
And reason to my love is liable.

CAESAR
How foolish do your fears seem now, Calpurnia!
I am ashamed I did yield to them.
Give me my robe, for I will go.

Context: Decius has come to get Caesar to the Senate with him. It is the Ides of March and Decius uses his smart brain to persuade Caesar while Caesar is still doubtful of going to the Senate.

Significance of the passage:
This passage is where Decius Brutus comes to Caesar's house to go with him to the Senate. First, Caesar is full of anxiety and is scared of going because of Calpurnia's dream and because it is the Ides of March. However, sneaky Decius persuades Caesar by interpreting Calpurnia's dream in a different way which flattered Caesar. This passage is very significant in the play because it is the part where Caesar gets to choose his destiny. It is the Ides of March which had been foreshadowed from the start of the play which makes this day the day with most tension and anxiety. The audience will watch the beginning of the passage with a nervous feeling, and then become very sorry for Caesar once he falls in for Decius's trick. This part of Act 2 Scene 2 will make the audience guess about what will most likely happen so this passage plays a major role in this play.

I am an gestalt learner with a profile 'K'

I learn best through movement and emotional relevance to myself. I think this is true because I do not remember things well when I learn something only by hearing my teachers explain stuff. I usually remember experiences that I have had great difficulties at and things that I have struggled with. These include both physical and emotional conflicts. I also learned that I am a visual learner that must see the whole three-dimensional perspective and emotional elements to learn. I think that this means that I’m not a student who follows the step-by-step instructions making up my own way of solving my problem. Therefore, it is natural for me to learn best when I’m solving creative problems which don’t have a certain order.

I need to practice reading out loud, uses Thinking Caps from Brain Gym, toning the vowels, and doing cross-lateral play like knitting writing and drawing with my left hand. I learned many things that I would need to work on to improve my learning skills. I think the activities most suitable for me are reading out loud and cross-lateral play with my non-dominant hand. I’m going to try out these activities from now on. I will try learning something with my left hand like some sport that uses mostly your hands to play like tennis.

The strategies that would help me in my learning are sitting in the front row on the left hand side and massaging my temporal mandibular joint for communication. I never thought about how the position of my seat could affect my learning. I also never knew before where my temporal mandibular joint was and knew nothing about how it could help me. I think I learned a useful fact since it is not so hard to massage your mandibular joint when it’s just between the two jaws. I also learned that it is highly beneficial for me to have a balance of art, music, movement combined with linguistics and mathematics. However, I had no gains from this fact because I already was doing the exact same thing mixing my interpersonal skills with my school subjects.

I would like my teachers to know that I feel very stuck and clumsy when I am under stress. I think I can’t work very well with people who I am not that close with since I get stress when I have to do my work while getting used to new friends. Therefore, I think I need to train myself and improve my weakness which is getting lots of stress and limiting my abilities to communicate and learn. I also think that my teachers should help me understand things in a more logical way since I am a gestalt learner.

Bottichelli's La Primavera

This painting is 'La Primavera' by Sandro Bottichelli, which was made in 1478 on tempera on wood.  This painting is about Venus celebrating the arival of spring. Next to Venus are the Three Graces targetted by the Cupid on the top of the painting. Other Greek Myth characters drawn on the painting are Zephyrus and Chloris, Flora who is the one covered with flowers, Mercury who is on the far left-hand side of the painting moving away winter clouds so that sping can come. This painting is a clear reflection of what was happening during the Renaissance which is shown by the topic of the painting.Secularism was developed during the Renaissance allowing artists new topics for their paintings other than religious paintings. Bottichelli was one of the main artists who were greatly influenced by secularism and as you can see from the painting 'La Primavera', the topic was very unrelated to religion and was based on fantasy and greek mythology. This was a very big and important step people took in the Renaissance because people in the Middle Ages wouldn't even imagine drawing something so unrelated to religion and the church. They even might had been punished in the Middle Ages for drawing an unreligious topic but, due to Lorenzo the Magnificent patronizing artists and encouraging secularism to artists, artists started to draw paintings which were unrelated to religion, and other people began to be a part of secularism and secularism developed very fast. When secularism developed, people started to think logically which made science develop too, since science is all about thinking logically. This painting 'La Primavera' shows entirely what the Renaissance was about and what developed during the Renaissance by showing secularism in the painting which also leads to the development of science.
